Pointe D'vine Vineyard Wedding PhotographySheriden and Joe were married at Pointe D’vine Vineyard in Quincy, Illinois. Pointe D’vine offers a outdoor setting for weddings, with a comfortable large tent as an option as well. Their wedding day was in late spring with beautiful weather. The dance floor for the reception was just north of the tent, illuminated by small string lights. I photographed most of the reception using off-camera flashes triggered by my radio remote. As my coverage time ended, I said my good byes to the family and wedding party, congratulated the happy couple, and made my way to my car. As I looked back over my shoulder towards the dance floor, I noticed the dramatic cool sky surrounding the warmly lit tent. Of course, I had to stop and get one last shot! I could see the partiers on the dance floor as it was dark and they were backlit from the tent. So, I unpacked one of my light stands and set it up at one end of the dance floor, just to give a little light to scene to see the guest on the dance floor. Our radio transmitters can fire from fairly far, so I made my way back towards my car and captured this image. I shot the frame at 1/20th of a second to balance the ambient light with the intensity of my off-camera flash show the detail in what was at that point a fairly dark ultramarine blue sky. 1/20th of a second is very slow – in order to capture a sharp photo, I used a lawn chair I noticed close by as tri-pod of sorts – worked perfectly.
